USDA Smart Snack in School Guidelines
The USDA has issues regulations for all food outside of the school meal program sold to students during the school day, including fundraisers, vending items and ala carte items.
Classroom Parties/Celebrations
We know that birthdays and holidays are important to every child and that kids like to celebrate with their classmates. However, sending in a food treat to the classroom to celebrate can exclude those children who have food allergies, diabetes, celiac disease or other dietary restrictions. In addition, frequent sugary snacks do not contribute to achieving our goal of healthy bodies and healthy eating habits for all students. We encourage the use of non-food items for classroom parties and celebrations. You can find some ideas by clicking on the link above.
